Frequently Asked Questions
-
Mehtta is a combination of the words Mehta and Metta. My maiden name is Mehta and its name also shows up in my paternal ancestors. Mehtas were traditionally in administrative, trade, and intellectual communities. Metta, on the other hand, is a type of meditation practice that I have personally found to be one of the most impactful and transformative approaches to mental health. The word Metta has sanskrit origin speaking to a non-romantic, universal love and a steady wish for the happiness and well-being of all.

Ontario is currently going through a transition and we are waiting for updates on funding from OHIP. At this time, the services provided at this clinic are generally not covered by public or private insurance. Some people are able to get approval through their health savings account and I am able to provide accurate invoices for appointments.

I provide flexibility in pricing for clients to follow up with me based on the intensity and frequency of care required. I require a minimum of a check in approximately every 3 months for people connected with me for longer term support and prescriptions. At any time, I am able to send records to your primary care provider to take over prescribing and you are never locked in to services here for long term affordabiliy purposes.

I am frequently able to fill out forms for accomodations, disability tax credit, time off from work, and financial assistance. Depending on the complexity of your care, this could be done within an initial 60 minute consult if planned for beforehand or may require a separate appointment dedicated to form filling. I prefer to fill out forms with you in an appointment as your input is crucial in this process rather than doing this independently on your behalf.

As I am a small business operating independently, I appreciate ample notice for appointment cancelation or rescheduling. At the moment, I do not have a cancelation policy.

I have worked with a variety of public and private institutions providing basic and specialized mental health treatments. I am able to draw on this network to make recommendations and referrals. I am able to provide short term therapy and coaching for clients but also do rely on my psychotherapist colleagues for more complex longer term support.

I commonly use long acting agents like stimulants in my practice and have extensive experience in managing patients with these. I am not currently practicing psychadelic assisted therapy.

Although there is no specific age of consent, typically anyone under 16 will require the consent of a parent or guardian for engagement in treatment. However, younger individuals can have the capacity to make these treatment decisions for themselves if they are able to appreciate the risks and benefits. I am happy to support your unit together and provide family and community centred care.

I am often helping people with deprescribing, particularly with agents like benzodiazepines e.g. lorazepam that can be harmful and addictive long term. Inversely, I do not rush people to come off these medications and look at a comprehensive approach as needed.

I am able to provide comprehensive blood work testing including hormone testing particularly for men. Generally imaging is not indicated for mental health concerns.
